On 3 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with Ambassadors of the European Union countries residing in and accredited to Lithuania to discuss the most pressing EU foreign policy issues. Landsbergis stressed his support for the priorities of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU and the main aim of continuing comprehensive support for Ukraine, including on the path to European integration.

“Moscow is undoubtedly testing the unity and solidarity of the EU, but in the face of the war, we have already adopted nine packages of sanctions against Russia. We hear the commitments of EU countries to abandon Russia’s energy resources soon. It is no longer convenient in the European circle to talk about cooperation with Russia. At the same time, we understand there is no other way than Ukraine’s victory in this war. Today, our main task is to continue to support Ukraine. We can’t give in to fatigue. The sooner Ukraine receives the necessary ammunition, the sooner it will be able to win,” Lithuania’s Foreign Minister said, underlining the importance of increased pressure on Russia and tightened sanctions.

With EU Ambassadors. Landsbergis also discussed Ukraine’s European perspectives and stressed the importance of taking stock of Ukraine’s progress in implementing reforms, which was not stopped even by the war, and helping prepare for accession talks. The meeting participants briefly discussed preparations for the upcoming NATO summit on 11 and 12 July in Vilnius.

The Embassy of Sweden, which currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU, organised the meeting. Priorities of the Swedish Presidency include assistance to Ukraine, boosting the EU’s security and resilience to external threats, the internal market, competitiveness, and economic growth, promoting democratic values and the rule of law, and strengthening the EU-NATO cooperation.
