Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis at the remote G7+ meeting: “Russia’s barbaric attempts to repeat the Holodomor and freeze the Ukrainians to death will also fail because of the joint effort of Lithuanians”
On 24 January, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis participated remotely in the G7+ Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Ukraine Energy Sector Support at the invitation of the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Landsbergis discussed the need to deliver equipment to restore and strengthen Ukraine’s energy sector due to the Russian attacks with representatives from the world’s largest economies.
“Russia’s barbaric attempt to repeat the atrocities of the Holodomor and to freeze the Ukrainians to death will also fail because of the joint effort of the people of Lithuania. More than 1000 generators and more than 260 transformers collected or purchased by the Lithuanian people will help Ukrainians survive this cold winter during the war,” Landsbergis said when presenting Lithuania’s support for Ukraine’s energy sector.
Lithuania is a member of the European Union that has delivered the most power generators and transformers to Ukraine. Thanks to our country’s efforts, Ukraine has received much-needed high-voltage transformers. Moreover, electricity grid operators of both countries are cooperating closely. We are also preparing to contribute to the renovation of power grids in a war-torn Mykolaiv city. Lithuanians are donating electricity generators to Ukraine to provide winterisation assistance.
The meeting was also attended by the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba, representatives of the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and other international organisations.
