A historical gift from Mahatma Gandhi will be exhibited at the Embassy
A relic contemporary with the spiritual leader of Indian Independence Movement Mahatma Gandhi has reached the Lithuanian Embassy in Delhi this week.
In 1931 the cloth with the symbols of the struggle for India’s Independence (see picture above) was gifted by M.Gandhi to the Lithuanian traveler and scholar Antanas Poška, who met Mahatma during a rally in Bombay.
The family relic was lent to the Embassy of Lithuania for exhibition purposes by Poška's daughter Ms. Laimutė Kisielienė. An original archive photograph of Rabindranath Tagore, received by Poška from the famous Indian poet, was also handed over along with the cloth.
This autumn the Lithuanian Embassy in India is organizing a series of events dedicated to the famous Lithuanian traveler and scholar Antanas Poška.
An exhibition of photographs and documents “Antanas Poška in India” will be presented in Delhi and Kolkata shortly. Two academic conferences on Lithuania–India relations with the special tribute to Antanas Poška will also be organized in these cities, on November 13 at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi and on November 18, at the Kolkata University.
