EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS ON NIDA INAUGURATED IN NEW DELHI
On March 15 the exhibition of paintings “Nida – the Jewel of Lithuania”was inaugurated in the Azad Bhavan Art Gallery of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). At the initiative of the Embassy of Lithuania in India and the association of artists “Tiltas” (“Bridge”) headed by the Lithuanian painter Saulius Kruopis, the collection of paintings of the annual art symposia which have been taking place in the resort of Nida in Lithuania for the last twenty years is on its journey across India. There are over 20 works of various painters who have worked in Nida, mostly Lithuanians, but there are also several paintings by German, Finish, Latvian and Polish painters. At the launch of the exhibition Mr. Anwar Haleem, DeputyDirector of the ICCR stressed that it is not the first instance of collaboration between the ICCR and the Embassy of Lithuania and each such common effort has helped to introduce the rich culture of Lithuania to the Indian audiences. Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Lithuania in India Mrs. Diana Mickeviciene spoke about Nida, the abode of sand, sea and wind on the coast of Lithuania which always inspired artists of Europe. She invited everyone to visit Lithuania and Nida especially as it is one of the most beautiful places in the world declared UNESCO natural heritage site and to feel its special charm and inspiration. The exhibition is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and India, it completes the series of cultural events by the Embassy of Lithuania in India that took place in New Delhi and Kolkata. The exhibition “Nida – the Jewel of Lithuania” will be on view at the Azad Bhavan Art Gallery (I.P. Estate) till March 21.
