On 16 October 2026, The Embassy of Lithuania in India and the Office of Academic Outreach and New Initiatives of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), in partnership with Women Go Tech (Lithuania) and the UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia, brought together nearly 300 women school students for the concluding event of the AI Foundations Training Programme for Young Women in India.

Held on the campus of IIT Delhi and under the theme “Ethical AI: Empowering the Next Generation of Women Innovators,” the event emphasized the importance of the responsible and ethical use of AI, as well the significance of equal opportunities for women in technology.

The event celebrated participants who had successfully completed the online AI Foundations program, developed by Women Go Tech, a Lithuanian NGO that specializes in upskilling women in the technology field. The AI Foundations Training Program was offered in India for the first time in 2026, building on its successful implementation in Europe in previous years.

Participants in the online AI Foundations Training Program were students from IIT Delhi’s Manasvi STEM mentorship program and from secondary schools in Delhi, which are partners of the Embassy. These are Fr. Agnel School, Mahavir Senior Model School, St. Mark’s Group of Schools, Mount Carmel School and Mount Abu Public School.

The event of 16th October featured discussions and interactive sessions exploring the opportunities and challenges presented by AI. A panel discussion on “AI and the Future of Education” brought together Professor Mausam, Nick McKeown Professor of Computer Science at IIT Delhi, and Professor Richa Kumar, Associate Professor of Sociology and Science and Technology Studies (STS) in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Delhi.

ARIES - IIT Delhi’s AI and Machine Learning Club - offered a session titled “AI: Friend, Foe, or Something Else?”, while Mr. Abhishek Venkateswaran, National Project Officer at the UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia, addressed the topic of “Ethics-by-Design.”

The programme also featured remarks by Mr. Lakshya Baid, Deputy General Secretary of Academic Outreach and New Initiatives at IIT Delhi, and Ms. Jarūnė Preikšaitė, CEO of Women Go Tech. Mr. Lukas Kisielius, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Lithuania in India, gave the concluding remarks.

The initiative highlighted the large potential of Lithuania-India cooperation in education, responsible digital transformation and emerging technology. Through Women Go Tech and its offerings, Lithuanian expertise in fostering women’s participation in the STEM sector is being shared with a new generation of Indian students and future professionals.
