INDIAN STUDENTS OBSERVE LITHUANIA CASTING HER VOTE IN PRESIDENTIAL AND EP ELECTIONS

As Lithuania goes to the ballots this Sunday to elect the country’s President and 11 representatives to the European Parliament, the Embassy of Lithuania in New Delhi has invited the students from the prestigious Amity International School (Saket) to observe the election process.

A group of 10th and 11th grade students visited the Embassy this Sunday morning, where they had the possibility to follow the voting process in the Embassy as local observers.

The Indian students could also learn in detail about the electoral process in Lithuania and the EU. A conference call was arranged via Skype with the students of the Didždvaris High School in Šiauliai, Northern Lithuania, during which the experiences of Lithuanian and Indian elections were shared.

Representatives of the EU Delegation in New Delhi and a few other diplomatic missions were present at the event.

A total of 12 Lithuanian citizens residing in India have registered for participation in the 2014 Presidential elections and the elections to the European Parliament. The first round of Presidential elections took place on May 11, 2014, and the second round is taking place simultaneously with the European Parliament elections on May 25, 2014.

Lithuanian legislation allows the voting at the diplomatic missions abroad.
