LECTURE ON LITHUANIA AT THE JAWAHARLAL NEHRU UNIVERSITY
On November 5 Charge d‘Affaires of the Embassy of Lithuania Diana Mickevičienė has visited the School of International Studies of the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi and gave a talk „Lihuania: From Independence to the Presidency of the European Union“.
In the lecture she briefly introduced the main threshholds of Lithuania‘s history and Lithuania‘s fight for independence. The main focus of the talk was on the dynamics of independent Lithuania‘s foreign policy – from strengthening independance and establishment of relations with the neighbours to the membership in the European Union and NATO. Diana Mickeviciene also presented Lithuania‘s forthcoming presidency in the European Union from July 1, 2013. She also replied to the questions by students on Lithuania‘s relations with Russia, on Lithuania‘s energy security policy, on ethnic minorities.
Jawaharlal Nehru University School of International Studies is the only academic institution in India where Baltic studies are taught, and several students are preparing theses on the political systems and foreign policy issues of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
