Lithuania and India are willing to expand bilateral cultural ties

On 16 August, 2023, H. E. Ms. Diana Mickevičienė, Ambassador of Lithuania to India paid a courtesy call on Srimati Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture.

Ms. Mickevičienė and Ms. Lekhi discussed common Indo-Lithuanian cultural, linguistic, and historical heritage and its expansion on a greater scale. Ambassador D. Mickevičienė proposed to initiate a series of common cultural events that celebrate historical connections, highlight people who acted as bridges between both countries as well as to encourage more connections for the future of our relations. In 2025 Lithuania will commemorate the 400 years anniversary of the first known Lithuanian landed in India – Andrius Rudamina, therefore 2025 could be dedicated as the year of people-to-people relations between Lithuania and India, resulting in the enhancement of cultural collaboration.

Moreover, bilateral cooperation was discussed in the meeting – both sides are willing to expand a number of high-level visits as the newly opened Embassy of India in Lithuania has started its operation.
