Lithuania ranks 28th in the Global Gender Gap Report 2013

A new gender equality survey ranks Lithuania in the 28th place among 136 world nations. In the Global Gender Gap Index published by the World Economic Forum three days ago, Lithuania is ahead of such countries as Spain, France, and Italy.

The Global Gender Gap Index seeks to measure the relative gaps between women and men, across a large set of countries and across four key areas: health, education, economics and politics.

It also helps identify countries that are role models in dividing their resources equitably between women and men, regardless of the overall resource level.

For the fifth consecutive year, Iceland tops the index, followed by other Nordic countries, namely, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Lithuania ranks 28th and, if compared with the previous year, has improved her standing by six positions.

Lithuania has outperformed 15 Member States of the European Union, namely, Spain (30th place), Slovenia (38th), Bulgaria (43rd), France (45th), Croatia (49th), Portugal (51st), Poland (54th), Estonia (59th), Romania (70th), Italy (71st), Cyprus (79th), Greece (81st), Czech Republic (84th), Malta (84th) and Hungary (87th).
