On 15–19 August 2026, Ambassador of Lithuania to India Diana Mickevičienė visited Bangladesh. During the visit, the Ambassador held meetings with senior representatives of the Bangladeshi Government, as well as representatives of the business community, academia and international organisations.

The Ambassador met with Bangladesh’s Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam, Prime Minister’s Advisers Humaiun Kobir and Rehan A. Asad. The meetings focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade and investment, cooperation in education and information technology, digital transformation and the mobility of skilled professionals.

Particular attention was given to strengthening economic cooperation. The discussions explored opportunities to increase trade, promote business and investment links, and expand cooperation in information and financial technologies, cybersecurity and other high-value-added sectors.

During the visit, the Ambassador also discussed opportunities for cooperation in education and research, visiting the University of Dhaka and the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.

The Ambassador also met with representatives of the United Nations and other international organisations, academia and the business community. The meetings provided an opportunity to present Lithuania’s experience and expertise in digital technologies, innovation, education and other areas, as well as to discuss opportunities for further institutional and people-to-people cooperation.

The visit confirmed the interest of both countries in further developing Lithuania-Bangladesh relations and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, technology, education and other areas of mutual interest. Lithuania also aims to use its role as the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027 to further strengthen ties between the European Union and Bangladesh.
