They discussed how the economic crisis has affected the common man in India and the world, what are real consequences of the global economic downturn for India, which models of economic development from around the world would suit India best. The hosts of the discussion emphasized that India has to study the road of other countries towards the welfare society as well as her own historical and cultural background, but one also has to take interest in a common man’s needs. Diana Mickevičienė presented the Lithuanian experience of completely restructuring her economy after the reestablishment of independence in the 90-ies and also the austere anti-crises measures implemented recently that were not easy for a common man, but necessary. The participants of the discussion agreed that India does have to study the experience of others, but due to her size, diversity, historical and cultural background and complexity of challenges she has to create her own model of development in order that a common man benefits from the economic growth.
