LITHUANIAN MANDALA COMPLETES IT‘S JOURNEY IN INDIA WITH A PERFORMANCE IN KOLKATA

 

The Lithuanian modern art performance „Mandala. Temple of flowers“ took place at the Rabindranath Tagore Centre in Kolkata on 6th November. The Lithuanian artists were warmly welcomed by Dr. Reba Som, the Regional Director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations in Kolkata who noted that this is one of the first opportunities for Kolkata to see Lithuanian art. Also present at the event was the Charge d‘Affaires of the Lithuanian Embassy in India Mrs. Diana Mickevičienė who told the audience that this project of Lithuanian artists was specially created to commemorate the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and India. She also stressed that the language of art is a good tool to interpret the similarities between the two cultures which are many, especially between the Vedic Indian and pre-Christian Lithuanian traditions that are interpreted in this performance.

„Mandala. Temple of flowers“ is the modern art project by group of textile artists „Baltos kandys“ and the contemporary dance artists Kristina Dolinina and Marija Vojevudzkaja, which successfully participated in Delhi International Arts Festival on October 31st – November 3rd, in five different spaces: in the auditorium of Baha‘i House of Worship, street performances at the India Gate and at the Select City Walk Mall shopping centre, St. Mary school and in the village of artisans „Zorba the Buddha“. On November 4 the textile artists organised the wool felting seminar, which was received with great interest by the elite of Delhi.
