From 14 to 18 September 2025, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Julius Pranevičius visited New Delhi and Bengaluru, accompanied by Ambassador Diana Mickevičienė, the Lithuanian Laser Association, and representatives of seven Lithuanian laser companies. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen Lithuania–India strategic cooperation in high technologies, science and innovation, as well as to expand political dialogue.
On the political agenda, on 15 September in New Delhi, Deputy Minister Pranevičius and Ambassador Mickevičienė met with Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, Mr. Sibi George. The meeting focused on bilateral relations, technological and economic cooperation, particularly in the fields of lasers, life sciences, and other high value-added sectors, as well as pressing geopolitical issues. Vice Minister Pranevičius presented the geopolitical situation in Europe, Europe's response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine and support for Ukraine, welcomed India's efforts to contribute to peace in Ukraine and invited India to participate in humanitarian initiatives. He also presented Lithuania's position on the Russian and Belarusian military exercises “Zapad”, emphasizing that such actions increase tension in the region and pose a risk to European security. Sibi George, in turn, provided information about the challenges faced by India's neighbors, and it was agreed to maintain close contact in order to achieve greater security in the world.
On the economic and innovation side, particular attention was given to lasers, photonics, space, life sciences, and ICT. In Bengaluru, the Lithuanian delegation participated in the international exhibition Laser World of Photonics India and inaugurated the first Lithuania–India Photonics Forum. Meetings were also held with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), electronics leader Centum Electronics, as well as other Indian high-tech companies to explore new partnerships in electronics and advanced technologies.
Throughout the visit, Lithuania highlighted its ambition to integrate into global value chains, foster joint research, and ensure smoother export procedures to facilitate advanced technology cooperation.
