Members of Lithuanian Indian community congratulate Lithuania on the upcoming EU Presidency
Many of Vilnius’s citizens were taken by surprise, and flattered, when early morning they woke up to see huge banners welcoming Lithuania’s EU Presidency posted on the main street of the city, Gedimino Avenue.
“Incredible India’s Superstar, Sue’s Indian Raja, congratulates the Republic of Lithuania for the EU Presidency”, the banners read.
The initiative was conceived and implemented by a renowned Indian restaurant in the Baltic States, Sue’s Indian Raja, owned by a retired Indian air force commander Rajinder Kumar Chaudhary.
The restaurant is located in the heart of the city, near the Cathedral Square, so the banner is visible to the thousands of citizens and foreign tourist visiting Vilnius.
Lithuania will assume the rotating EU presidency starting from July 1, 2013. During six months Lithuania will host a few hundred EU-level meetings, of which more than two hundred events in Vilnius and other cities across Lithuania.
More than 7 thousand high-ranking officials are expected to visit the country during this period.
Lithuania is the first Baltic country to assume the EU Presidency since their accession to the Union in 2004.
More information on Lithuania’s goals and role during the Presidency is available on the official website: www.eu2013.lt.
