Strengthening Ties: Meeting with Shri Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West)
On Sept 17 Ambassador of Lithuania Ms Diana Mickevičienė paid a courtesy call to Shri Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs. During this fruitful meeting both sides had an extensive overview of bilateral relations and next steps planned for future – exchange of visits and business delegations. Ambassador appreciated India’s resolve to strengthen relations with the whole Nordic-Baltic region.
Strong historical connections between India and Lithuania were also discussed, including fascinating linguistic ties between Sanskrit and Lithuanian, which is the closest modern language to Sanskrit. This connection has already sparked initiatives like the River Sanskrit project in Lithuania which was presented by Hon. Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi in one of his recent Mann ki Baat episodes, as well as academic work on Lithuanian-Sanskrit dictionaries.
