THE CHILDREN OF NEW DELHI FASCINATED BY THE LITHUANIAN CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

On Friday, November 22, the Lithuanian Embassy in India organized the workshop of wool felting at " WINDOWS, the art and craft corner” in New Delhi. Indian kids learned to make Christmas tree decorations from wool felt, old Lithuanian craft turned into art.

"Approaching Christmas is a great occasion for the New Delhi kids to find out about Lithuanian traditions of decorating Christmas tree and also to learn making beautiful Christmas decorations and toys from wool. I have no doubt that this old Lithuanian craft can be applied to decorate the house for Indian holidays” said the Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Lithuania Diana Mickeviciene while presenting Lithuanian Christmas traditions.

Delhiites first discovered Lithuanian wool felting tradition in 2012 when the Lithuanian Embassy in New Delhi and the visiting Lithuanian textile artists from “Baltos kandys” organized their first wool felting courses. The old Lithuanian craft , now reborn as popular hobby in Lithuania, captured the imagination of Renuka Tanuja, the founder of the children's art studio and educationist in New Delhi. The children will have several more classes of wool felting at Renuka’s studio, and the most beautiful of them will decorate the Christmas tree of the Lithuanian Embassy in India.

Wool felting workshops at “Windows” children's art studio is one of the final events of the Days of Lithuania in India. For six weeks from 31 October over ten cultural, academic and economic events on Lithuania have been organized in India.
