THE DELHIITES WERE FASCINATED BY THE ART OF WOOL FELTING
The Embassy of Lithuania in India has invited the group of Lithuanian artists „Baltos kandys“ that is participating in the Delhi International Arts Festival with the modern art project „Mandala. Temple of Flowers“ to organise the wool felting workshop at the arts village „Zorba the Buddha“, Delhi. The Delhiites response was very overwhelming. The enthusiastic participants had to compete with the others for space at the table and for the materials,- the wool, the foam rubber and the needles. Artists Migle Lebednykaite, Auste Jurgelionyte – Varne, Laura Pavilionyte ir Julija Vosyliute presented their wool felt art and taught the ABC of the needle felting. Wool felting technique was eagerly tried out by women, men and children alike. The participants were highly inspired not only by the samples showcased by the Lithuanian artists, but also by the natural softness of wool and the unlimited possibilities to create using the most ordinary media. Soon came to light the wide variety of creations, non of them alike – from flowers, berries or leaves to the egg fry! At the end of the seminar an exhibition of handiwork was organised, the participants were not in a hurry to go home and were inquiring, how it would be possible to continue this training further. The artists gifted all the participants the felting needles, foam rubber and wool, and encouraged to continue their creative quest.
