VILNIUS PUBLIC MESMERISED BY ZUBIN MEHTA’S PERFORMANCE
Vilnius has extended a standing ovation to the world’s one of the most famous conductors, Indian origin Zubin Mehta, last night.
On September 18th Lithuania’s National Opera and Ballet Theater opened its 95th season with a mesmerizing performance of Israeli National Philharmonic Orchestra led by Zubin Mehta.
The performance was perfectly matched by the wonderful arias of Europe’s leading soprano today, Lithuania-born Violeta Urmana.
All of the country’s top leadership attended the concert, including former President Valdas Adamkus, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, Minister of Culture Šarūnas Birutis and many others.
The owner of Padma Bushan, a leading Indian scientist and chairman of Cipla Dr. Yusuf K. Hamied and his wife Farida, were also among the distinguished guests.
The concert was dedicated, among other things, to Dr. Hamied’s mother Liuba Derchanski, who originally is from Vilnius.
Dr. Hamied himself was born in Vilnius in 1936.
