Ambassador Talat-Kelpša presents credentials to the President of Sri Lanka

Ambassador Laimonas Talat-Kelpša presented his credentials to H.E. Maithripala Sirisena, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, on Tuesday (24 January).

After the official ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, the President and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.

Courtesy call on H.E. Karu Jayasuriya, Honorable Speaker of the Parliament, was also arranged.

Ambassador Talat-Kelpša invited Sri Lankan authorities to tap into the opportunities that Lithuania as member of the European Union provides in the areas of business, logistics, and education.

In 2015, bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and Lithuania amounted to EUR 5.8 million, of which EUR one million was Lithuanian exports to Sri Lanka.

Nine Sri Lankan nationals are currently enrolled in Lithuanian universities.

Ambassador Talat-Kelpša is Lithuania’s first ever ambassador to Sri Lanka. The two nations established diplomatic relations in 1996.

Lithuanian diplomatic mission to Sri Lanka is accredited from New Delhi, India.
