Bilateral Dialogue Between Lithuania and Bhutan: Culture, Technology, and International Cooperation

Lithuania’s MFA Political Director Laimonas Talat-Kelpša, together with Lithuania’s Ambassador to India, Diana Mickevičienė, met with Bhutan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lyonpo D. N. Dhungyel, during the Raisina Dialogue 2025 international conference in New Delhi.

The bilateral meeting focused on strengthening Lithuania-Bhutan cooperation in culture, education, tourism, and economic relations. L. Talat-Kelpša highlighted the growing interest of Lithuanian society in Bhutanese culture, particularly reflected in the successful Bhutanese exhibition at the National Museum of Lithuania. He also emphasized Lithuania’s support for Bhutanese doctoral studies in ethnology, contributing to the development of academic ties.

Lithuania’s expertise in cybersecurity, reforestation, and deposit-return systems attracted the interest of the Bhutanese delegation. The Political Director invited Bhutanese representatives to visit Lithuania and explore its innovative FinTech, GovTech, and high-tech ecosystems, which could contribute to the realization of Bhutan’s ambitious Gelephu Mindfulness City vision.

At the conclusion of the meeting, L. Talat-Kelpša expressed gratitude to Bhutan for its principled stance at the United Nations in supporting Ukraine and condemning Russia’s aggression. Minister Lyonpo D. N. Dhungyel reaffirmed that this decision reflects Bhutan’s commitment to international law and peace.
