EXPEDITION RETRACING THE JOURNEY OF ANTANAS POŠKA IN INDIA PRESENTED TO MEDIA AT THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS OF LITHUANIA

On July 5, 2013 an expedition retracing the journey of Antanas Poška in India was presented to the media at the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Lithuania. The expedition is planned for the month of November and will aim at commemorating the famous Lithuanian traveller and explorer Antanas Poška in Lithuania and India.

Together with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in India this expedition is being organised by the Lithuanian Travellers’ Union, the Lithuanian – Indian Forum, the Lithuanian Journalists Association Travel and Entertainment club. The expedition is sponsored by the travel organizer “Vilturas”.

The members of the expedition are planning to visit the places of Antanas Poška travels in India, to collect archival material and to participate in academic conferences “Antanas Poška in India. Lithuania – India relations during the first half of the 20th century” organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in India on November 13 in New Delhi and on November 18 in Kolkatata. During these conferences Antanas Poška scientific researches in India as well as links between Lithuania and India in 20th century will be discussed by the scholars of the Vilnius University Oriental Studies Center and their colleagues from India.  

The events commemorating the journey of Antanas Poška and his work in India are dedicated to his 110th birth anniversary and will also mark the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Among other events of Lithuanian Days in India which are organized by the  Lithuanian Presidency of the European Union in India will be the Lithuania country stand at the India International Trade Fair on 14 – 27th of November in New Delhi and the music concert “Bach in India”.
