A fire kindling ceremony in remembrance of the victims of Soviet aggression of January 13, 1991 in Lithuania, was held at the Lithuanian Embassy in New Delhi on January 12, 2024.
Symbolically to the Lithuanian people, who in January 1991 spent cold nights defending their freedom in peaceful resistance, the guests gathered around the fire and were offered a humble cup of tea and hot stew.
Ambassador Diana Mickevičienė, herself a witness of those events, in her moving speach said, that we should always remember that the freedom is often fought for and sometimes comes at a cost, and we should prepare for it.

The occassion is coinciding with Indian festival Lohri, which is also celebrated by burning fires and marks the end of winter.
