FOREIGN MINISTERS OF LITHUANIA AND INDIA SIGNED THE BILATERAL AGREEMENT ON EXEMPTION FROM VISA REQUIREMENT FOR HOLDERS OF DIPLOMATIC PASSPORTS

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius who is participating in the Asia-Europe Foreign Ministers' Meeting (ASEM) in Delhi, met with the Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on 10th November.

Issues of bilateral cooperation and of international politics were discussed in the meeting. The Minister Linkevičius thanked India for her support to Lithuania having just been elected as the Non-Permanent Member of the UN Security Council and called for increased cooperation in ensuring world peace and stability.

Ministers of Lithuania and India signed a bilateral agreement on exemption from visa requirement for holders of diplomatic passports. 

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister also presented the priorities of the Presidency of the European Union Council and urged India to complete negotiations on an India-European Union free-trade agreement.

Within 9 months Lithuania-India trade has increased by 52 percent compared to the same period last year and reached 179 million Litas.

The Minister Linas Linkevičius will also inaugurate the Lithuanian-Indian business seminar and will give a speech at Jawaharlal Nehru University.

The Foreign Minister of Lithuania visited India last in 2009.
