In the 1st half of 2016 Lithuanian exports to India grow by 77,4%, green peas are the main driving force
In the first half of 2016, as compared to the same period last year, Lithuania’s exports to India grew by 77.4% and amounted to EUR 17.3m, Statistics Lithuania reports.
The main export commodities included: green peas (24.9%), plastics and articles thereof (23.2%), wadding, felt and nonwovens (9.1%), optical, measuring, precision, and medical instruments (7.2%), wood and articles of wood (7.1%), electrical machinery and equipment (5.2%).
Copper and its articles have dropped from the list of Lithuania’s most exported commodities to India and have been replaced by green peas, the export of which experienced exponential growth and amounted to EUR 4.3m.
Trade in other commodity groups which had advanced in the bilateral trade list last year was also good and growing. Thus, trade in plastics and articles thereof grew by 4.2 times, while trade in wood and articles of wood by 2.2 times.
The exports of high value added commodities such as lasers and medical equipment reached EUR 1.3m and, combined with the exports of laser spare parts worth EUR 0.53m, constituted 10.6% of Lithuania’s total exports to India.
Meanwhile, Lithuanian imports from India during the first half of 2016 shrank by 1.5% and amounted to EUR 24.2m.
Fish and other aquatic bodies (10.3% of the total import volume), animal fodder and waste from food industries (9.6%), footwear (6.1%), edible fruit and nuts (6.0%), and pharmaceuticals (5.1%), featured as the key import commodities.
In 2015, Lithuanian exports to India amounted to EUR 50.9m, while Lithuanian imports from India stood at EUR 51.7m. India was Lithuania’s 38th largest export partner.
