Lithuanian Delegation Participated in the “India AI Impact Summit 2026”: Strengthening Political Dialogue and Technological Cooperation

Vice Minister Valys participated in discussions on governing safe and responsible AI within digital public infrastructure and attended the Council meeting of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), emphasizing the importance of human rights and rule of law principles in AI policy.

On 18–21 February 2026, a Lithuanian delegation led by the Minister of the Economy and Innovation, Mr. Edvinas Grikšas, and joined by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Taurimas Valys, visited New Delhi to participate in the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The delegation included representatives of the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as members of the business and academic community – Mr. Simonas Černiauskas, Head of INFOBALT, and Prof. Dr. Paulius Pakutinskas of Mykolas Romeris University, Head of the UNESCO Chair on Artificial Intelligence. The cross-sectoral composition of the delegation reflected Lithuania’s intention to combine political dialogue with practical business and research partnerships.

The Summit marked the fourth global high-level forum on artificial intelligence, following meetings held in France, the United Kingdom and the Republic of Korea, and was the first event of this kind hosted in the Global South.

During the Ministers’ plenary session, Minister Grikšas presented Lithuania’s approach to responsible and competitive AI development, highlighting the national “LitAI” initiative, high-performance computing infrastructure, an open data ecosystem, and the AI regulatory sandbox, which supports companies in adapting to the requirements of the EU AI Act.

During the visit, bilateral meetings were held with India’s Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Mr. Jitin Prasada, and Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal. A meeting was also held with the Maldives’ Minister of State for Homeland Security & Technology, Dr. Mohamed Kinaanath, and Deputy Minister Abdulla Hussain, where opportunities to strengthen cooperation in digital transformation, cybersecurity and innovation were discussed.

On 18 February, the Embassy of Lithuania in New Delhi, together with the Data Security Council of India (DSCI), organized a high-level discussion on women’s leadership in artificial intelligence, the digital economy and cybersecurity.

Alongside the political meetings, Lithuanian business and academic representatives visited key Indian innovation hubs, including the Infosys Centre for Artificial Intelligence, IIT Delhi Research & Innovation Park and the I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics, to explore avenues for technological and research cooperation.

During the visit, Lithuania’s National Day was marked by a reception in New Delhi, at which Minister Grikšas delivered a congratulatory address to members of the diplomatic community and international partners.

The visit contributed to strengthening Lithuania’s visibility in the global AI agenda and opened new opportunities for political and economic cooperation with India and other partners.
