Lithuanian film and theatre star Nelė Savičenko attends 2013 Nepalese Film Awards ceremony

The winner of the Best Actress nomination at the 2013 Nepalese National Film Award received her prize from a leading Lithuanian cinema and theatre actress Nelė Savičenko-Klimienė, a winner of two “Golden Crosses” (top Lithuanian theater award) and a “Silver Crane” (Lithuanian national film industry award).

The ceremony dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Nepalese cinema took place in Kathmandu on July 20-21, 2013. Nelė Savičenko was invited to this event at the initiative of the Lithuanian Film Center and the Embassy of Lithuania in India, inspired by the Embassy’s old time friend Naresh Shrestha.

Participation of a Lithuanian celebrity attracted the attention of the government and media of the Himalayan state. The actress was received by the Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav, Vice-President Parmanand Jhaand, and Nepalese Prime Minister Khil Raj Regmi. The leaders of Nepal appreciated Lithuania’s attention and support to the Nepalese cinema and invited artists from both countries to cooperate more actively.

It is not the first time that Lithuanian artists come to Nepal. In 2011, the Embassy of Lithuania in India, in collaboration with the company "Nepal Pavilion,“ organized Lithuanian Film Festival in Kathmandu, and in 2012, the Lithuanian contemporary art show "Mandala: Flower Temple“ was presented at Durbar Square of the city. In May 2013, a photo exhibition of the famous Lithuanian mountain climber Vladas Vitkauskas was opened in the capital of Nepal.

The 2013 National Film Awards celebration was organized by the National Film Corporation of Nepal, Nepal Tourism Board and the company “Gopi Krishna Entertainment“, and was widely attended by the local film industry, government and business representatives, as well as guests from neighboring India’s Bollywood industry.

Film awards celebration was broadcasted live on the Nepalese commercial TV channel “Filmy TV“.
