LITHUANIAN THEATER IS COMING TO KOLKATA WITH A ‘NEAR-HALLUCINOGENIC’ PERFORMANCE

One of the brightest stars of Lithuanian contemporary dance Loreta Juodkaitė will come to the 3rd International Theatre Festival in Kolkata with her solo performance Salamander’s Dream. The performance will open the 3rd International Theatre Festival in Kolkata, organized by Kalindi Bratyajon, one of the leading group theatres of India based in the capital of West Bengal.

Loreta Juodkaitė is one of the most interesting young Lithuanian contemporary dance artists who debuted on the professional stage in 2006. Since then she has been widely acclaimed by audiences and critics, and received a national theatre award (Golden Stage Cross) for best debut of the year. She has toured many countries, including such important venues as The Place in London or Internationale Tanzmesse NRW in Dusseldorf.

In 2013, Loreta was honored with the Government of Lithuania Culture and Arts Award.

Salamander’s Dream is a dance diptych inspired by an amphibian salamander, which in the Middle Ages was regarded as a messenger from hell and a symbol of alchemy due to its ability to regenerate lost parts of the body.

In Salamander’s Dream Loreta is the only performer but her powerful presence and energy with which she performs is enough to fill the whole space. “A near-hallucinogenic experience”, as British theatre critic Andrew Haydon has put it.

Please book the date in your calendar: Star Theatre in Kolkata, Thursday, 5th of June 2014, at 7 pm.
