Lithuania’s Political Director Laimonas Talat-Kelpša meets Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West) of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, at the "Raisina Dialogue 2025" conference

The Political Director welcomed the strengthening ties between Lithuania and India, emphasized the potential for technological partnership – particularly in the space and renewable energy sectors – and proposed declaring 2025-2026 as the Year of People-to-People Relations between Lithuania and India to highlight the historical ties between the two nations.

During his participation in the international conference "Raisina Dialogue 2025" in New Delhi, the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Mr. Laimonas Talat-Kelpša, met with Shri Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West) of India’s Ministry of External Affairs. The meeting was also attended by Lithuanian Ambassador to India, Ms. Diana Mickevičienė. During the meeting, both parties discussed Lithuania-India bilateral relations, key international political issues, and opportunities for cooperation in various fields.

The Political Director welcomed the strengthening ties between Lithuania and India, emphasized the potential for technological partnership – particularly in the space and renewable energy sectors – and proposed declaring 2025-2026 as the Year of People-to-People Relations between Lithuania and India to highlight the historical ties between the two nations.

Discussing Russia's war against Ukraine, Mr. Talat-Kelpša stressed that stopping aggression and rebuilding Ukraine is crucial for regional security. He also introduced the Lithuanian-Icelandic coalition on demining and urged India to continue its humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. The Indian side expressed concern about the situation and emphasized the importance of reaching a diplomatic solution.

In the context of economic relations, both parties discussed strengthening trade cooperation, accelerating the EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) process, and expanding collaboration in the fields of industry, cybersecurity, and defence. Discussions also focused on encouraging Indian business delegations to visit the Baltic States. Mr. Talat-Kelpša proposed organizing a high-level Indian delegation visit to Lithuania with the aim of signing a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on technological cooperation. The Secretary of the Indian MEA welcomed the idea.

The meeting reaffirmed the growing Lithuania-India relations and the shared interest of both countries in deepening cooperation in geopolitical, economic, and technological fields.
