NEW LASER FACTORY OPENS UP IN LITHUANIA

The leading Lithuanian laser producer, UAB Light Conversion, opened a laser production facility in Vilnius last Friday. This new facility has been adapted to the specific sterility needs of laser manufacturing and research and is unique of its kind in the entire Baltic region.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė of Lithuania attended the ribbon cutting ceremony and visited the site on this occasion.

"Today we are witnesses of a great accomplishment, which makes us very proud of Lithuania,” the president said during the ceremony.

“During the 20 years of its existence, this company has conquered a significant share in the global laser market and today is exporting its products to almost everywhere in the world,” she added.

More than 90% of the company’s production is exported to different countries, including India. At present, Lithuanian lasers can be found in almost 20 Indian universities, including Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and India Institute of Technology Bombay.

Lasers was the largest export commodity from Lithuania to India in 2013, making up to 17.6% of total exports.

UAB Light Conversion was founded in 1994. Its annual turnover in 2013 was EUR 20 million.

Lasers developed by the company are widely used in micro-electronics, medicine and scientific research.

In total, 14 laser producing companies operate in Lithuania today.
