Lithuanians in India » Cultural diplomacy »On January 13, the Embassy of Lithuania to India hold a commemoration evening of the Defenders of Lithuania’s Freedom. The 13th of January marks the anniversary of events in 1991 when unarmed and singing Lithuania challenged the aggression of the Soviet Union. Soviet tanks killed 14 and injured around 1000 civilians who stood tall defending the Lithuanian Parliament and the main TV tower. These defenders became the symbol of Unity for the people of Lithuania and of victory in the fight for Freedom.

Consular news »Starting from 2 January 2023, the Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania will start providing the service of issuing temporary residence permits in Lithuania through an external service provider “VFS Global”. Foreigners wishing to obtain a temporary residence permit in Lithuania will be able to submit their applications in 34 different countries, where VFS Global's offices will be located. The time allowed for examining the application and taking a decision will vary from 1 to 3 months.

On 24 January, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis participated remotely in the G7+ Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Ukraine Energy Sector Support at the invitation of the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Landsbergis discussed the need to deliver equipment to restore and strengthen Ukraine’s energy sector due to the Russian attacks with representatives from the world’s largest economies.
